Currency ExSCAMge

Currency ExSCAMge

This series explores a global issue: how authorities, oligarchs, and major financial players control money flows and manipulate currency exchange rates for huge profits. Ordinary people, forced to exchange currencies in everyday life, often suffer losses. Media also influence public perception, spreading panic or hype about currency movements and pushing people into financial traps.

In these works, Currency Exchange becomes Currency ExSCAMge — a visual play on words that reflects how currency exchange can turn into deception. Each piece documents the real date, place, and local exchange rate in the country where the artist was at the time. The series includes «currency scams» from Japan, the U.S., Germany, and more.
Presented here is the work: «Kyiv, Dec 15, 2021.» In Ukrainian and across all Slavic languages, changing just one letter transforms «exchange» into «scam,» capturing the emotional response of people who feel trapped in this constant financial game.

The series continues to expand, now including new digital currencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, and many others, whose volatile exchange rates have sparked a global boom and mass speculation.
