Modern still lifes are a series of artworks in which the artist highlights contemporary issues. The project consists of a series of still lifes dedicated to the Dutch, Flemish, and Spanish masters, but in a modern interpretation.
Nowadays, the still-life with ham, grapes, and pears has turned into Monosodium Glutamate, MSG, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Calcium Propionate, Carboxymethylcellulose, Sorbitol, Acesulfame Potassium, Lecithin, Tartrazine, Xanthan Gum: Е 123, Е 360, Е750, etc. The same products as on the still-life of the Dutchman now consist of colouring agents Е100 — Е182, preservatives Е200 — Е299, antioxidants Е300 — Е399, stabilizers E400-E499, emulsifiers Е500 — Е599, taste and aroma amplifiers Е600 — Е699, and other additives.
And peach garden nowadays looks like an object in the form of volume figures – the code of peach colour additive, which is added together with aroma amplifiers, preservatives, and other additives to juices, porridges and other products.
These elements serve as metaphors for a consumer society, where large corporations extract massive profits from low-quality substitutes. The artist creates these works to encourage discussion and awareness of the consequences of such practices in our everyday lives.
The project became a laureate of the All-Ukrainian competition Young Ukrainian Artists 2012 and was included in the best 20 works out of 500.
