The Book of Changes

The Book of Changes

In this ongoing project, the artist creates art objects from books, transforming them into visual art in a way that has not yet been explored in contemporary art. Here, the book becomes not just a vessel of information, but an independent gallery and museum object that demands a mindful gaze.
In an era where humanity is rapidly absorbed by social media, short videos, and instant consumption, the book is turning into a rare, almost endangered format. Today, knowledge is increasingly consumed through fifteen to sixty-second video clips, while deep, long-form engagement is being displaced by fast, fragmented content.
This project emphasizes the importance of preserving slow, thoughtful interaction in the modern world.

From the series «The Book of Changes», started in 2010

The triptych «Hemingway and Mirnov in Miami 1928, 2025»

contains a personal story of the artist, who is struggling to survive in the challenging conditions of a new country. In this work, the artist draws a parallel with the hero of Hemingway’s story, The Old Man and the Sea. Like Hemingway’s protagonist, the artist finds himself in a new and difficult environment, where every day becomes a fight for survival and for the right to continue making art.
Administrative barriers, constantly shifting regulations, and an unresolved work authorization that has been unexpectedly placed on indefinite hold create a situation where official employment is temporarily impossible. Yet, remarkably, U.S. law allows artists to create and sell artworks even in this transitional status. This provides a real chance to survive and move forward.
For the old man, fighting the great marlin was not simply about catching a fish; it was about defending his dignity, his belief in himself, and proving that his efforts still have meaning.
In the same way, when a collector acquires this work, they contribute not only to the survival of the artist but also to the survival of art itself, to its living continuity and future. To a history of art that refuses to give up.
